Driver Lessons for Longer, Straighter, More Confident Tee Shots
Driver lessons help golfers understand setup, launch, attack angle, face control, path, strike and speed so tee shots become more playable and more confident.
Better drives start with better setup, better strike and better face control.
Driver is different from iron play. Ball position, tee height, spine tilt, attack angle, strike location, face angle and path all change launch, spin, curve and distance.
I use GCQuad data and video to show what is really happening, then gives you simple priorities to hit more playable tee shots.
Simple priorities. Clear feedback. Written next steps.
Every private lesson is built around understanding what is actually happening, what to fix first, and how to practice it without leaving confused.
Launch it, don’t chop down on it.
A driver is not hit like an iron. The setup should help you launch the ball from a tee with a slightly upward strike, better face control and a more playable start line.
Ball Position
Driver ball position usually starts inside the lead heel so the club can reach the ball later in the arc.
Stance and Tilt
The stance is wider than an iron setup, with the spine tilted slightly away from the target and the trail shoulder lower.
Tee Height
A good starting point is roughly half the ball above the top edge of the driver face, then adjust based on strike pattern and launch.
Wide Takeaway
The first move should feel smooth and wide, with the clubhead staying outside the hands early instead of getting snatched inside.
What happens during a driver lesson?
I keep the lesson focused on the biggest issue first, then gives you a practice structure that makes sense for your game.
Setup and tee height
We check ball position, tee height, alignment, posture, spine tilt and balance.
Strike and launch
GCQuad data shows strike location, launch, spin, ball speed, carry and direction.
Face and path control
You learn why the ball starts where it starts and curves the way it curves.
Speed with control
I help you create speed without losing structure or balance.
Written recap
You leave with clear drills, priorities and next steps.
Data and video are used to explain the lesson, not overcomplicate it.
The goal is not to bury you in numbers. The goal is to use the right information to make the fix clear, simple and repeatable.
Train launch, contact and a full finish.
I use simple drills to help the driver feel athletic instead of forced. The goal is better launch conditions, better strike location and a finish that proves the body moved through the ball.
Move through the ball, not at the ball.
The tee-line drill trains an upward strike, the step-through drill trains pressure shift and rotation, and the foot-spray drill shows where you are actually contacting the face.
See Swing Sequence LessonsUse the ground, then finish in balance.
Driver speed should not come from throwing the arms at the ball. I help golfers use pressure shift, rotation and a stable lead side so speed can show up without losing the strike or finish.
Can you hold your finish?
If you cannot finish balanced on the lead side, the body may be hanging back, sliding, or firing out of order. Driver power should still end in control.
See How You Use the GroundCommon questions about driver lessons.
Why does balance matter in a driver lesson?
A balanced finish tells me that the golfer is using pressure shift, rotation and the ground more effectively. More driver speed only helps if the golfer can still control contact, face and finish.
Why is driver setup different from iron setup?
Driver is hit from a tee and usually needs a slightly upward strike. Ball position, stance width, spine tilt and tee height all help create better launch conditions.
What is the step-through drill for driver?
It is a practice drill where the trail foot steps forward during or after the downswing. It helps train pressure shift, rotation and a balanced finish. It is a drill, not the exact course swing.
Can you help with a slice?
Yes. Driver slices are usually face, path, setup, strike or sequence problems.
Do driver lessons include driver fitting?
They can. If the driver specs are part of the problem, I can explain whether a fitting or adjustment should be considered.
Can you help me gain speed?
Yes, but speed must be built on contact and control. I use a simple Solid Contact, Control, Speed priority system.
Driver speed has to happen in the right sequence.
More speed is not helpful if the body, arms, hands and club fire out of order. When the shoulders or hands take over from the top, golfers often come over the top, lose face control, spin out or hang back.
The 4-Speed Gearbox gives driver lessons a clear order: pressure shift and lead-side knee, torso turn, arms returning, then hands and wrists releasing the club through impact.
Learn the 4-Speed GearboxThe trail leg is a spring, not a locked post. It loads, pushes, extends and rotates as pressure moves into the lead side. The step-through drill can help a golfer feel that movement instead of hanging back.
