Chipping & Pitching Lessons in Escondido & North County
Short-game lessons help golfers build reliable contact, cleaner turf interaction, better trajectory control and smarter shot selection around the greens.
Cleaner contact and better decisions around the green.
Chipping and pitching problems usually come from poor setup, poor low-point control, too much hand action, the wrong club choice or not understanding how the wedge should interact with the turf.
I help you build simple, repeatable short-game motion and gives you a clear plan for when to use a chip, pitch, higher shot or lower running shot.
Simple priorities. Clear feedback. Written next steps.
Every private lesson is built around understanding what is actually happening, what to fix first, and how to practice it without leaving confused.
Know which shot to use around the green.
A chip and a pitch are not the same shot. The choice depends on how much green you have to work with, whether you need to fly over trouble, and how quickly the ball needs to stop.
Chip Shot
A chip is a lower shot that carries a short distance and rolls more like a putt. It is often the best choice when you have green to work with and no obstacle to fly over.
Pitch Shot
A pitch is higher and softer, with more carry and less rollout. It is used when the ball has to fly over rough, a bunker, or another obstacle and stop more quickly.
Chip Setup
Narrow stance, pressure favoring the lead side, ball slightly back of center, hands slightly ahead, and a simple shoulder-driven motion.
Pitch Setup
Slightly wider stance, ball closer to the middle, less forward shaft lean, natural wrist hinge, and the chest turning through impact.
If you can putt, putt. If you can’t putt, chip. If you can’t chip, pitch.
This rule keeps short-game decisions simple. The lower, safer shot is usually preferred when it is available. When the ball has to carry trouble or stop faster, the pitch becomes the better option.
What happens during a chipping and pitching lesson?
I keep the lesson focused on the biggest issue first, then gives you a practice structure that makes sense for your game.
Setup and ball position
We check stance, weight, shaft lean, ball position and how your setup affects contact.
Low point and turf interaction
You learn how to brush the ground in the right place without stabbing, scooping or flipping.
Club and shot selection
I help you choose the right wedge or iron for the shot instead of using one club for everything.
Trajectory control
You learn how setup and swing length change launch, spin, carry and rollout.
Practice structure
You leave with short-game drills and a written recap so practice has a purpose.
Data and video are used to explain the lesson, not overcomplicate it.
The goal is not to bury you in numbers. The goal is to use the right information to make the fix clear, simple and repeatable.
Common questions about chipping & pitching lessons.
What is the difference between chipping and pitching?
A chip is lower with more roll. A pitch flies higher, carries farther and usually stops faster. I help you choose the shot that fits the situation.
What is the easiest short-game rule to remember?
If you can putt, putt. If you can’t putt, chip. If you can’t chip, pitch. That simple order helps golfers avoid choosing a harder shot than necessary.
Is this only for advanced players?
No. Beginners and higher-handicap golfers often improve quickly when the short-game setup and contact pattern are simplified.
Do you teach both low chips and higher pitch shots?
Yes. The lesson can cover low running shots, basic chips, pitch shots and trajectory control.
Can wedge fitting be discussed?
Yes. If wedge loft, bounce, grind or gapping is part of the problem, I can explain that during the session.
Short shots still need the body, arms and hands working together.
Chipping and pitching are not about maximum speed, but the motion still breaks down when the hands take over too early or the body stops moving. I keep the focus on setup, low point, turf interaction and simple connected motion.
